Some elderly people may have difficulty travelling to and from the optometrists, as often a carer cannot be found during working hours for Optometrists. There are also other issues associated with mobility such as lack of public transport or navigation problems. This is why we at Mary McMahon Opticians provide home visits to those who cannot make it into practice.

We need only a few details to check eligibility for the free eye test at home and then a time is booked for the visit.

The eye care optician will call approximately an hour before visiting to ensure any change of plans. Once confirmed they will come over and may ask questions related to your eye care history or issues faced. Once this is done they will conduct the eye test using special equipment designed for use in homes.

If the optician prescribes the use of glasses these are readily available and we can provide a lot of different choices. If the patient is eligible for NHS funding then a free pair may be provided.

The glasses should be custom made for you within 14 days after the visit, however in case it may take more time since the process is somewhat time consuming you will be called and informed.

The results for your eye test will be mailed to you along with the glasses you choose. The result will include details of your eye test.
